Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at a rally in Orlando for the Iowa State Cyclones who were competing in the Camping World bowl. The Ferris Wheel was lit up in Iowa State colors to celebrate.

Time

I took the photo at 10pm while waiting in line to ride.

Lighting

The shot was done in manual mode f/1.8 iso 320 with shutter at 1/60. I continued to adjust as I could until I like the amount of light captured.

Equipment

Canon 60D EF-S 17-55mm lens

Inspiration

I was captivated by the architectural details of the wheel. The perfect lines radiating outward to meet the circumference of the circle seemed like they had been drawn in the night sky.

Editing

I adjusted sharpness to accentuate the lines against the black night sky.

In my camera bag

Canon 60D, Tripod, 50 mm lens for portraits, EFS-S 17-55 for general shooting. EF 75-300 telephoto when I absolutely need it. Speed lite 600 ex II flash.

Feedback

Night shots can be difficult especially when your subject is moving. In this case, I waited for the wheel to stop before taking the shot. Still I had many so-so shots until I landed on this one.
