Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a incredible nature park that is close by with beautiful gardens, wonderful walking trails, and an extensive collection of flora.and fauna on the grounds with a huge rose garden. I have seen deer, birds, frogs, turtles, butterflys, ducks and even snakes and muskrats.

Time

Having walked around the gardens exploring, photographing and taking in the beautiful landscaped parkland, I decided to just walk around and take in the beauty around me. The sun was getting low but it was such a great day to be outside. All of a sudden following the light coming down, I was drawn to these flowers on the tree. They were in such a perfect spot, the light was right and the colours were bright. I took my camera out, a 35mm, and started shooting.

Lighting

Lighting is one of the most important things when taking a photo outdoors. It controls the subject, it sets what you focus on and it sets the atmosphere. The sun was going down so it was hitting only one spot on the tree enough to get this shot, but nonetheless I was worked my way around and tried different angles to capture it. I knew what i wanted and when it felt right I took a few shots. This is one of them.

Equipment

I used my Samsung 7x zoom 35mm camera. No flash. I now use my iPhone camera. I would love to do macro photography and go deep underwater and see the amazing marine life out there. Having a long range zoom lens, batteries, a really good tripod, and flash are really important to have.

Inspiration

Seeing the colours, shape, and textures of this flower was pure joy to capture especially with the cloudless blue sky, great natural light, time of day and the emotions that I felt being in the moment and taking this picture..It was towards the end of the day, it was beautiful out it just felt like a moment I had to remember.

Editing

I like to just let the picture take itself and not do too much other than cropping. I like the simplicity of a photograph, and its lines and tones.

In my camera bag

Right now I use just my iphone camera and charger. Was able to try some photography with a glass ball and would like to buy one. Also realized I need a better tripod that is flexible and strong.

Feedback

You often find yourself in unexpected moments or elements and you need to be patient and you have to be able to adapt fast and with ease to what is going on around you. Be creative, use your imagination, take chances, think outside the box. Focus,on what you want to do, what you care about. Know yourself and just be you. Always respect the natural environment you are part of and never leave your footprint behind.
