Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Washington, D.C. I am a self-taught photographer, so every photo is a new lesson.

Time

This is one of my favourite images. I remember we would wake up at 7 AM and we would walk until 22 PM. I took this picture at around 12 AM. It was very cold - it was December. And I remember I was freezing while taking this picture. But it really was worth it.

Lighting

I wanted this image to reflect the beautiful sky. You might have noticed that the clouds are the main focus of the image. I used natural light. I wanted it all to be real.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D5100, with an 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G VR lens.

Inspiration

Clouds. Definitely clouds. I was so amazed by clouds that day, I wanted to capture it. But I didn't know how to. I tried lots of ways but ended up with this. I liked the fact that it could reflect on the building. So I tried and this is what it turned out to be.

Editing

I did not do any post-processing, except a quick colours-help in VSCO.

In my camera bag

Mostly, while travelling I only pack my Nikon D5100 camera. This day was no exception. I rely on my camera because I believe that it really catches natural lights.

Feedback

My advice would consist of two recommendations. I would really recommend being patient. Never give up. Try many times. Try again. again. again. I would recommend to try and look at buildings from many angles, to try and find the best view possible.
