Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while my wife and I were on a hiking trip around Colorado Springs, CO. It was a cool rainy day so there was perfect cloud cover. We came around a corner and there was this beautiful little pond. I always have my camera with me on hikes so I had to capture it.

Time

This photo was taken in the late morning/early evening on a cool, cloudy day.

Lighting

The cloudy daylight was the perfect lighting for the photo.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon EOS Rebel XSi with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

When I turned the corner and saw the pond I couldn't help but want to capture it. I walked all around it until I saw the perfect reflection. It was too perfect to not shoot it. I always find inspiration in nature.

Editing

I converted to black and white and adjusted the white balance and exposure a bit.

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon Rebel XSi as well as my 18-55mm lens and my 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens. I also have tripod and my +1, +2, +4 and 10X macro lenses.

Feedback

One of the best tips I have is not to be afraid to get out on the dreary days. I have capture some of my best photos on days that were dark and gray. I love the shadows and reflections that come from cloudy days.
