This photo was taken about two weeks in to the quarantine. I was looking for a reason to get my camera out. Feeling nervous about going out into world because of the virus. I set up in the dining area of my house.Time
Since I keep thinking of chores to do around the house that I've put off for 25 years (it's amazing how many there are). I didn't get around to doing this shot until mid afternoon.Lighting
It was mid afternoon and overcast and there wasn't any notable light coming thru the windows so I set up a strobe with a smallish soft box out side the window directly in front of me.This allowed me to slightly underexpose the indoor lights and change their apparent color.Equipment
I used my trusty Sony a7ii and a Sigma 50mm Art lens at 1.4 on a tripod with the camera's 10 second timer. It took me 5 tries to get it right.Inspiration
I was trying to convey what this great hunkering' feels like. For me, the fear and anxiety, combined with the surprising comfort and lack of need. I still have every need met except external social needs. My wife and I have been and are still completely self Isolating (and we seem to really like each other).Editing
This is as-shot in camera with the exception of added sharpening in light room.In my camera bag
My primary photo bag is set up for potentially carrying a long way. I have a Sony A7ii and 3 lens. A Sony 16-35 f4, a Sigma 50mm Art f1.4, a Sony 90mm macro f2.8, a light weight meFoto tripod and various filters and remote triggers and a Sony speed flash.Feedback
I'd say in trying to capture this image I was trying to capture two types of differentials DOF and light. 1. The depth of field shot at f1.4 with the subject about 10 feet away seems to leave a nice softening to the foreground and background. 2. The brightness from the strobe outside the window cast an apparent sun light on the subject allowing an underexposure of the indoor lighting which gave it a nice warm tone. Good luck.
