The Stone arch Bridge (1883) was built diagonally across on the Mississippi Riverfront because someone told the railroad Tycoon, James J Hill, who owned the property at different places on each side of the river, that he should build a bridge for trains to cross St. Anthony Falls and the Mississippi River, and he did. The properties were not adjacent so the bridge was built diagonally across the river. In 1978 the last train cross the bridge which is now a trail for pedestrians bikers and sometimes horse carriages. The iron was put in place when the Lock and Dam was built to allow clearance for the upper -
