Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is taken at the Ouwehand Zoo, Rhenen, The Netherlands. Although zoo's always give discussions, I like to go there now and then as it gives me good "material" to practice and improve my photography skills

Time

It must have been somewhere early in the afternoon. We arrived at 11 am, checked the weather forecast while enjoying a coffee and realised it wouldn't stop raining before 3pm.

Lighting

Due to the heavy rain it was a bit darker during the day. But actually it wasn't that bad, as it was also very stable light without annoying shades or highlights

Equipment

For this handheld shot I used my Lumix G80 and 100-300mm telezoom lens

Inspiration

I like to take close-up shots from animals. For me it makes them look much more interesting, make details visible. Not sure if pelicans like rain or not, but this one was really looking like it wanted to say "depending on me, it may stop raining now..."

Editing

Just a little editing afterwards in Photoshop 'cause I shoot in RAW. Some changes in curves and contrast, that's it actually...

In my camera bag

Depending on where I go, I decide at home what lenses to take with me. In this case of visiting the zoo, I only brought my 100-300mm telezoom lens. Another favorite lens is the Lumix 12-60mm kitlens. And I always carry extra batteries and SD-cards with me!

Feedback

Take your time. Try to figure out how animals behave. In the zoo you have enough time to walk around and look for the right spot. And don't be afraid to try something different!
