Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a charity horse show in East Yorkshire.

Time

About late afternoon, I'd been there grooming and photographing from about 11am and this handsome lad arrived at about 1pm.

Lighting

It was a super sunny, hot, gorgeous July day, so all natural lighting for this stunning boy.

Equipment

Shot with my Nikon d3000 with my Tamron 70-300mm tele-macro lense.

Inspiration

I just turned and he was standing there, looking absolutely picture-perfect and I had to take a snap!

Editing

Not a lot! I just smoothed out the harsh highlights and whites, bumped his shadows up a touch to bring back some shadows, and brought his texture up. And of course a soft vignette to draw your eye further to his absolutely gorgeous face.

In my camera bag

Just my trusty Nikon d3000 and 70-300mm Tamron tele-marco lense! As a hobbyist, I don't feel the need to have oodles of equipment; though the temptation is very real!

Feedback

Trust your gut, keep an eye for any unprompted gorgeous snaps, and knowing body language is a key thing when working with animals as well as getting the correct feel to your work.
