Location
I was in a small town called Malmesbury in the Western Cape, South Africa, for a close friend's wedding. A group of us had organized accommodation together on a farm about a kilometre from the wedding venue. It was just a collection of little rooms and self catering houses which seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, it was so delightfully peaceful and quiet.Time
The morning after the wedding we got ready to leave early as I had to catch a flight back home and I stepped out of our little front door that overlooked a small vineyard and lavender field that was awash in the golden glow of a misty sunrise and decided to snap this picture.Lighting
It was pretty unique having the sun filter through the early morning fog in such a way that it wasn't blocking the light but rather magnifying the glow of it and making it softer.Equipment
Because I was only briefly there for the wedding I hadn't brought my camera and snapped this photo on my Huawei P10 phone.Inspiration
To be honest, with this piece I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and it was purely a lucky shot. I'd love to go back one day and do some proper landscape shoots in this area as the hills and vineyards can seem really magical in good lighting.Editing
For most of my photos I like to edit them a little using the Lightroom app. I have a mobile version on my phone for shots that I take with it on the go. For this one I adjusted the colors a bit to help bring out the yellow tones in the sunlight and the highlights as well as the purple tones of the the clouds and the mist as they compliment each other so well.In my camera bag
I have a standard EOS 400D Canon that I usually work with, with a standard lens as I am still saving up to get myself some proper equipment.Feedback
I feel that morning shoots can be really spectacular and if anyone would like to capture something similar I would suggest putting in those early hours to scout locations. Colder mornings can be great if you can find somewhere that gets a little morning fog and as an added bonus you could perhaps get some nice close up shots of dew drops on plants too. Just remember that if you're photographing someone's farmland or property that you have their permission to do so.
