Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Springbrook National Park, a picturesque nature area just inland from Gold Coast, Australia. The reserve is teeming with nature and it's waterfalls and rock formations are a sight to behold.

Time

The photo was roughly taken between late morning and early afternoon in summer, when the sun is full and sits almost directly above the park, beeming in sunlight and highlighting its natural beauty. The walks can become somewhat crowded but this day was very quiet and I was able to capture some beautiful images, using just my smartphone camera.

Lighting

The lighting in this picture was all natural. It wasn't overbearing and the trees and rock formations created some nice shade and shadow effects, especially the light coming through the waterfall, really gives it life and focus.

Equipment

The only equipment I used was my Xiaomi MI Note 10 mobile phone stock camera, just used in auto outdoor mode.

Inspiration

I just really liked the way the waterfall peeked through this hole it had created, semi covered by the arch rock formation in front, almost giving it its own natural frame.

Editing

I only did slight post processing in Photoshop, I cropped a little on the top and sides, I also enhanced overall brightness, reduced some of the shadows, added very slight contrast, saturation and vividness. I then added some overall clarity to enhance details and increased the tint very slightly as to not oversaturate the blue of the water.

In my camera bag

The only thing I take with me is my smartphone (fully charged and clean of course), a portable phone charger and a cleaning cloth for screen and camera lenses.

Feedback

Just capture as many and as much as you can...and don't be afraid to try something new. Try capturing from different angles, with different effects or in my case, camera modes. Alot can also be changed in post, so don't get too worried or caught up on having the perfect picture simply on capture!
