Behind The Lens

Location

After a month of observing the outside world from the window of my apartment due to a pandemic, I finally left town looking for the first signs of spring. Right next to the road, I discovered a flowering tree, which was shrouded in the haze of the rising morning sun. It was a cherry tree, whose flowers are for me a symbol of spring.

Time

I like to take pictures early in the morning and wait for the sunrise, which turns the world gold. The picture was taken at six o'clock in the morning, when the sun shone through the morning haze.

Lighting

When photographing nature, I do not use a polarizing filter, because light and turbidity are a natural part of the landscape and give the image a real atmosphere.

Equipment

Sony A7, Sigma 24-105mm f / 4 DG OS HSM Art

Inspiration

Every year, the biggest inspiration for me is spring. A theme that I am also looking for in galleries in paintings by famous painters. The cherry blossom reminded me of the works of the world-renowned Czech Art Nouveau painter Alfons Mucha.

Editing

I use post-production minimally, mainly to eliminate lens defects. In this case, I used Capture One Pro. I gently removed the noise, reduced the color saturation to maintain the haze, and gently sharpened.

In my camera bag

Sony A7, Sigma 24–105 mm f / 4 DG OS HSM Art lens, Samyang 14mm F2.8 ED AS IF UMC lens, Sigma MC-11 Lens Mount Converter for Sony E Mount, Hoya ND10 filter, Manfrotto Befree GT XPRO Carbon tripod

Feedback

The most important thing for me is the way I see the world around me. Galleries with paintings by world painters are therefore a good school. There is much to learn from Dutch masters, baroque artists or impressionists. I watch them work with light and composition. When shooting, I put a lot of emphasis on the background, which must not contain disturbing elements, so I work a lot with the depth of field. I want each photo to be like a picture in a frame on the wall.
