Behind The Lens

Location

In my backyard

Time

Midday - noon

Lighting

I made use of natural lighting and just captured the moment this butterfly decided to bask in the sun.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 7D Mark II with a 18-55mm lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I loved the way the orange color of the wings popped against the vibrant grass with just the sun shining down. I have been raising monarch butterflies and this one was ready to release into the environment so I let it go and grabbed my camera to capture the moment it experienced grass for the first time.

Editing

No post production was required!

In my camera bag

For now, I just have my 18-55 mm and 75-300 mm lenses, my charger, and other small camera accessories

Feedback

You need a lot of patience in order to capture butterflies. They typically move around a lot if in the wild. Since I had raised this one it wasn’t afraid of me and was comfortable with the pictures.
