Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Ein Hemed Natural Reserve, near Jerusalem, a couple of weeks before the COVID-19 closedown. As an amateur, I ake my camera with me to every trip with my family, to use some shooting opportunities.

Time

We went to a walk with my family in the afernoon, arriving to the park at about 15:00. It was the beginning of spring, so the sun already started to set by that time.

Lighting

I wanted to use the soft light from the setting sun and try to catch its reflection in the water and the underside on the bridge, together with the flow of water.

Equipment

This shot was taken with my Canon 7D, using a 17-70 Sigma Lens

Inspiration

The flow of the water under a bridge and the reflections from it by the setting sun created a very dynamic scene, which I wanted to catch.

Editing

After having the image in my comuter, I did some minor cropping to better frame the image. Some lighting and white balance corrections were performed.

In my camera bag

Since I take my photos on the go, I can never know when and what opportunity comes along (a lesson learned from all these "Man, such a scene and I don't have a camera with me" occasions). Therefore I try to be as versatile as possible, without getting too heavy. I always have my Canon 7D, two lenses for full range coverage (17-70 by Sigma for portraits and wide angle, a Tamron 70-300 for the long range action) and a flash. And a couple of spare batteries if the trip is long.

Feedback

Try to play with your shooting spots and make several images with different camera settings.
