If there is any "walk of fame" in the elephants' world, then this must be the one. Two living monuments of natural history in an exquisite display. The young bull in between the patriarchs has just left his maternal family and is looking for role models. The two iconic bulls have very possibly the same father. At least, they are "brothers in tusks".
The one in the background is 3 years older, aged 48 when the picture was taken. Note the different colours of the supertuskers, reflecting the different mud-dust colours (of different areas) they used as cosmetics.
Higher-lower; longer-shorter right tusked or left tusked
Amboseli is a dusty semi-desertic area at the foothills of Kilimanjaro in Kenya. The big bulls spend most of the time in bushy conservancies around the national park and come enjoy the rich marshes of the park usually during the mating season.
These are the most photographed big tuskers in Africa today, and very often confused with each other. I am not aware of a more arresting image with both of them together.
