Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at home in our dining room. I am a hobby photographer who greatly enjoys "themed" photo shoots. My youngest daughter is now 17 and refuses to let me dress her up these days. When I suggested this photoshoot for the #betweenartandquarantine challenge she actually said yes! I jumped on it before she could change her mind!

Time

Usually getting in costume for these shoots take at least an hour. With all that hair, what seemed like an easy costume still took over an hour of curling, teasing, pinning and spraying hair.

Lighting

I have a hard time with using flash, so this was done using natural light from the windows and french doors.

Equipment

I shoot Pentax k 3ii. The lense is my absolute favorite. Pentax -D FA 24-70mm 2.8. I rarely take this off my camera. It's heavy but such a great lens!

Inspiration

My "thing" is themed photos. Brigitte Bardot is so beautiful. I've had her pinned in Pinterest for several years waiting for a chance to recreate some of her iconic photos. My daughter just happens to be tall, blond and pouty just like BB photos!

Editing

I always do post processing. There are those that feel that a photo should be perfect right out of the camera and any post processing is cheating. I disagree. I try to create art and there are soo many ways to create art these days with photo editing software. I mostly use Lightroom with plug in filters. Sometimes, I'm able to figure out Photoshop enough to add layers but we've got a love hate relationship. Although, I've learned no amount of processing will turn a bad photo into anything than what it is - a bad photo.

In my camera bag

Pentax k 3ii, Pentax 24-70mm lens, Pentax 50mm lens, flash.

Feedback

Just have fun. I've realized I'll never be that photographer who transports you. When I'm excited about my project and relax and have fun, my photos always turn out better. So what if I'm not the best, as long as I'm happy and the model is happy with the outcome, that's all I care about!
