Behind The Lens

Location

Shot in private residence for a film in Belmont Shore of Long Beach, Ca.

Time

I feel like this was sometime in the afternoon. We shot for a couple hours doing headshots and concept shots for the film's poster.

Lighting

This was beautiful natural window lighting during a wonderful day in Southern California.

Equipment

camera:Canon EOS 7D settings:Aperture f/2.8?ISO 250?Shutter 1/640?Focal Length 60/1? hand held, natural light

Inspiration

This is an emotional concept shot of actress Julia Silverman for a movie poster I designed. The short film is called Intervention. I shot the concept images, on set still images, designed the poster and did their art direction. I love capturing images of actors; they deliver such incredible emotion.

Editing

I used lightroom and one of my own presets. I like muted yet moody presets with green and blue tones to enhance the intense moods.

In my camera bag

I have usually have on set my original Canon 7D 60mm 2.8, a 50 1.4, 35 2.8 and I also of my super handy Olympus OM-D 10 Mark II with an 60 2.8 Sigma Art Lens. I have a slew of LEDs given I work on film sets, I rarely bring my flashes or strobes.

Feedback

I prefer to shoot pretty open for more intense DOF with at least 50mm for portraits. I go from natural light to fixed dramatic light as well-anything to capture dramatic moments. Our beautiful actress went into character for this shot and her breath can be seen filtering the window. I think it's my patience and love for the art that helps capture their beautiful talent of emotion.
