Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home while we were quarantining. I started documenting our indoor life with my two children. This is my oldest getting used to his mask wearing.

Time

I remember how the clear natural light coming through the window that afternoon enhanced my son's eyes, giving them a deep catching can't-take-your-eyes-away look.

Lighting

The natural light from my window was perfect that day. New York is often gifted with this bright, clear, high sky.

Equipment

I wanted to catch the moment fast, my iPhone was already in my hand so it is what I used. Agitate quarantined kids don't wait around.

Inspiration

I was looking at my son trying on his masks, experimenting with it, something was happening in his mind, dealing with all the stress this year has brought us. I wanted to grasp those eyes trying to make sense of things. It was an intense moment.

Editing

I used a black and white filter.

In my camera bag

I have a Sony 7a and an Asahi Pentax.

Feedback

Kids are one subject I get to experiment with the most. I can never succeed by making them pose for me. The successful pictures I get always come from a lot of playing around, moving with them and having fun.
