Hi Swampy, this is the white pelican. The bump on the beak only occurs when they are breeding. When breeding season is over the bump disappears. I believe it's only the male pelicans that grow the bump. The older the pelican the more pronounced the bump.

I am inspired by these magnificent birds. They breed in this location and I find myself attracted to their first arrival. They are one of the largest water birds with wingspans up to 11'. Males sport a horn on their beaks during breeding season, which disappears soon after breeding has taken place. They are amazing fishers and form a circle to scoop the fish out of the water. Unlike the brown pelican these white pelicans do not dive.Editing
