Location
This was taken in the home of subject just sitting on her couch. The light was from the front window that faces North so the light was indirect. I was shooting some before photos for a body challenge the client was about to embark on. As we sat talking in her living room I could see the light, her look and asked if I could snap a few pictures while I had my camera out.Time
This was shot in the late morning around 11:00 a.m.Lighting
I really love natural lighting and this situation provided a natural light box. The time of day provided enough light to enter back into the window that was facing away from the sun.Equipment
I shot this hand held with a 70-200 mm Canon lense. Aperture was 3.5 again in natural lighting.Inspiration
I have had previous discussions with this client to shot some photos of her as her look intrigued me. Her beauty, the short hair, her eyes, all captured by the light perfectly. This shoot was unplanned and so I only took about 12 shoots in less than 5 minutes. I could have shot for an hour and probably not gotten a better image.Editing
The coloration etc is probably 98% out of camera. I did a few minor skin retouches but this is so close to the original I couldnt be happier.In my camera bag
I only have one body these days. My Canon 1D Mk IV. and two lenses. The go to 70-200mm (used here) and a 24-70. They go with me everywhere. Simple set up.Feedback
Wow, not sure I'm worthy but I'll try. I always look for light first, good subjects don't really come out well in mid day sun without lots of shade filters, reflectors or filler lights. But great lighting makes everything look its best. Since I shoot pretty much without those aids, I look for early morning or later afternoon opportunities to make the light more dramatic. This one, was a different kind of capture because I was still able to see the possibility when it presented itself. Again great lighting makes everything look good, put in a beautiful model and its a no lose situation, but you have to be alert to the opportunities.
