Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken of my 15 year old daughter the day we moved into a women's domestic violence shelter. I remember we had just finished moving everything into our room and she was sitting on the bottom bunk staring out the window. I remember seeing the shadows from the window shades across her face and thinking how beautiful yet also very saddened. I grabbed my phone from my back pocket and shot this beautiful photo of my beautiful first born daughter. This photo represents a positive new beginning of our lives. A new life where domestic violence is not something we fear any longer. This is the day we took our lives out of the darkness and walked without fear into the light.
