Behind The Lens

Location

In the living room of a two bedroom apartment. I didn't have the money to rent a studio so I sorta had to work with what I had available.

Time

It was night time. Which worked to my advantage considering I wouldn't of had enough materials to block the sun from the living room window!

Lighting

Experiment with angle and placement of light on the target you are photographing.

Equipment

One light, a jacket, Nikon d3200 /w a 50mm 1.8 lens, a black sheet, and a cigar for the smoke.

Inspiration

It was actually an idea from the mind of the gentleman I was photographing. He needed cover art and music single photos. He told me what he was seeing in his head.I just made the ideal a reality.

Editing

I did all my editing in lightroom. I did do too much because the pictures was already pretty good. But I went in and made certain things pop like the smoke and brighten up any color that was black.

In my camera bag

I'm still collecting I just made the switch to Sony but I usually carry a 50mm 1.8, a zoom lens, a speedlight, lens filters, lens hoods, and white balance cards.

Feedback

Just experiment with the angles of your lighting and where you shoot. Don't be afraid to try something out of your norm.
