I had no idea what I was doing, and my brain was a bit cold from the wet weather so was having a great time experimenting with the lens - trying to capture the clarity of a tiny moss spore. I was with my university on a field trip to Dartmoor, paying a visit to Wistmans Wood, which is where this photo was taken. Obviously we had finished our tasks so I was having fun messing about trying to stay busy and warm whilst they sat waiting to leave!Time
Tired from all the walking and trying to get activities complete before we had to head back to base, the chilly, damp October afternoon wasn't going to stop me from having fun. It was taken at 14:20, 9th October 2019.Lighting
This lighting was interesting because I was under a canopy of trees; shaded but the white light from the cloud coverage gave me light from all directions.Equipment
Sony A7iii with my first proper lens, 90mm macro f2.8 - if I don't use it, I miss it!Inspiration
We were doing a small comparison survey on moss coverage in the woods and outside the woods and I noticed these sticking out of the moss and couldn't resist taking some pictures.Editing
Just a few lightroom edits, using gradients to blacken the background for that dramatic effect. It is worth noting that the background was already very dark, I just enhanced that.In my camera bag
At the time, I only had my 90mm and a kit lens. The 90mm is so versatile and so pristine in photos, I find it hard to use anything else! Now I have a 35mm f1.8 which comes too.Feedback
A lot of interesting things happen after or during rainy day. Ancient woodlands are amazing places, so explore inside and down on the ground and on rocks for a tiny world you might not see usually.
