This photo was taken of the well-worn staircase that leads to my second-story apartment. I was climbing down the stairs (from my house to the ground)Time
Probably midday? When the sun is bright...Lighting
Light plays a significant role in this image. It tells the story of journey. The darker areas are where I am coming from, and the light is where I am heading. Things may be hard right now (in life), but those who succeed are ones that can overcome all of that- and focus only on the light ahead of them. That's the story these staircases tell. I go more in-depth in the coming questionsEquipment
I used an iPhone and a lot of crouching into weird positions ;)Inspiration
These stairs are ones that I see multiple times a day. They lead to my safe haven, my turmoil, my love, and my hates. They lead to one thing that encapsulates all: my home. I am really interested in portraying daily objects in a new light. That's one thing I love to do. These stairs were no exception. The staircase has a nice sense of symmetry and contrast- neither noticeable at first glance. I intended to break and highlight these characteristics. Light plays a significant role in this image. It tells the story of journey. The darker areas are where I am coming from, and the light is where I am heading. Things may be hard right now (in life), but those who succeed are ones that can overcome all of that- and focus only on the light ahead of them. That's the story these staircases tell. While you must keep your head up and take a step at a time- toward your destination, you must also always pay attention to each step you take....teaching us that no matter what you do and where you go, don't forget to live in the present. It's so inspirational how these stairs, so common, teach us the way of life. That's why I am super captivated with picturing day to day life objects, it's amazing how much we can learn from the things we see every day.Editing
The edits I made afterward were to only bring forth the story I was trying to tell. The composition was the main part of this image, so I decided to go with black and white. Black and white successfully direct the viewer to the main point of the image, not to get distracted. With a few adjustments to the contrast and highlights, my image was ready. In my camera bag
What bag? Haha. Yes, I don't have professional gear. I'm more of an iPhone photographer- with a DSLR for occasional use.Feedback
Keep your eyes open. You might notice things you never saw before. Don't underestimate the power of ordinary! :)
