Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a place called Gandhikota which is located in Andhra Pradesh, India. I'm from India and I learned photography on my own. I have been doing photography for a year now and it's my passion. I'm so driven into photography as it enables me to explore our beautiful world through the camera and the lens and I get to look so much interestings things that I wouldn't have seen through my eyes.

Time

It was evening golden hour and the sun was about to set. The time was not perfect but give me a different perspective to capture the image in a different way. I am mostly concentrated to Landscapes and Nature, being a landscape photographer allows me to shoot at different locations at different timings and time plays an important role in this.

Lighting

Lighting was an important character which adds its special touch to the image. It was perfect timing as the Golden hour just creates this beautiful Orton Glow to the cliffs and gives this image a special touch. But the sun was setting behind me so exposure was preety balanced but the foreground was not lit much.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 5DMk4 with a 16-35mm f/2.8 lens. I didn't use any filters and unfortunately my tripod was broken and I couldn't use it, thus I have to shoot handheld only. So no filters and no tripods.

Inspiration

I was waiting for the opportunity to go to this place and shoot the canyons as it looks much like a Grand Canyon. The rocks, sandstones and the cliffs created an interesting image. There's a lot of interesting subjects and this particular photo caught my eye and I wanted to capture the foreground also so 16mm of focal length gives me a lot of subjects and the depth of field that I required. My vision was to capture to the sky the beautiful river creates a sort of leading lines and the foreground which gives a nice depth of field to the view.

Editing

Yes I did, since the foreground was not exposed properly so I had to increase the exposure and dehaze a little and also adjusted the contrast cause I need to be careful with the light and the color that the raw file had and need to pull those colors in lightroom. Since I was not in tripod so unable to do focus stacking or else would have done it and then the foreground would also be in focus.

In my camera bag

In my bag I mostly have a Canon 5DMk4 and as backup a Nikon D5300 DSLR. According to the situations I also hire other cameras to suit my need and subject. Mostly I carry a Canon 16-35 mm f/2.8 a 70-200mm f/2.8 and Nikon I carry a 18-55mm kit lens and a 35mm f/1.8 prime lens. A digitek tripod and a ND Filter set. I also carry 16 and 32GB UH1 cards and a Seagate 2TB Hard drive a card reader a cleaning kit because you don't know where it is needed. Sometimes I carry a rain cover depending weather conditions.

Feedback

Research a lot like it needs a lot of research and digging to know about an area and the weather conditions and places or viewpoints from where you can capture great shots. Do a ton of planning but be courageous to ignore the planning and tryout different places and viewpoints because it may happen that if you move your camera a little you can view the subject in a different way. Sometimes breaking the rules and give you the opportunity to capture masterpieces. But planning is required as you don't have much time during sunrises and sunsets and must reach the location before and prepare yourself accordingly.
