Location
the photo was taken in the private kitchen of a lady who I met in a rural village of the central highlands of Sri LankaTime
I was invited for lunch and since the cooking takes a lot of time, I arrived at 10am to document her work to get a meal on the table.Lighting
The only light inside this very tiny kitchen came through the one open side in the room and from the flames. Of course this is enough, or even perfect for a great photo.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV My photos are all shot handheld and without flash.Inspiration
Since in Sri Lanka hardly anyone has a western standard kitchen I was really looking to document the preparation for an entire meal. Firstly because I am impressed by the daily procedures and secondly because I absolutely love the Singhalese cooking. Its like having a book of recipes with precise instructions!Editing
I cropped the photo and slightly enhanced the colours of the flamesIn my camera bag
I carry just as much as I can handle. The first thing I always get ready is my Canon 5D Mark IV with a Tamron 150-600 G2 or Sigma 60-600 sports to carry over my shoulder. For my bag I take a Canon 50mm and a Canon 24-70mm. Depending on where I go I pack the LUMIX G VARIO or my waterproof LUMIX DC VARIO (down to 102ft) What always already is in my bag is cleaning material, small water diffuser for flowers and some personal items.Feedback
Make eye contact with local people. In Sri Lanka they love to open their doors and if you take their photo or photo of the daily life they will just say thank you and give you the biggest smile ever. Its a paradise for photography packed with the nicest people ever.
