Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in New York at the National 9-11 Memorial and Museum.

Time

It was a mid summer day in New York City and I had been to the World's Trade Center many times in my life. I even had walked all the steps and signed the book as the only visitor on a freezing cold day in January in 1978. I had not been back to NY since 9-11. I had five cousins who made it out alive but they lost over 50 friends. Born in Brooklyn, it was like losing part of my history, my memories and my soul that day and took me a long time to go back. I was shocked at the changes. New York had changed drastically in this area. The Memorial was so heart warming but so seriously sad. Reading all the names and seeing the vast hole in the ground was chilling. I decided to go into the Memoria and this was the first piece I saw. It was the one piece that all the first responders signed. It was one of the pieces that showed how the world came together that day. The museum was amazing. It put everything into a reality and perspective. Suggested to everyone, it is a must see to understand what happened and how much went into making the memorial The last thing I saw was the wall of pictures and was able to go and take pictures of the friends my cousins had lost. Never will I forget either the day of 9-11 or my visit back home.

Lighting

Look at what you are going to shoot and do not press the shutter until you feel it in your heart.
