Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken from my place of work high up on the 36th floor of an icon New York building. I never worked anywhere before where I had such views upon the city. This was taken just after an early morning rainstorm was clearing.

Time

This was early morning around 6:30 - 7am. An early morning rainstorm was clearing as the sun was rising.

Lighting

I just love early morning light. The morning sunlight was broken up by the clearing clouds, some lingering rain, and raindrops on the window.

Equipment

This image was made handheld against a window using my iPhone 8. I edited the image for black and white in Snapseed. I usually have a camera with a long lens with me for taking images from where I work, but I did not have it with me that day. The iPhone contained the longest lens in my bag.

Inspiration

I was at my desk working. I looked up, saw that the rain through the window was clearing and this beautiful light was coming through the clearing clouds. I knew I did not have the camera with me to do what I was seeing in my head, but I am quite pleased with the result from my phone's camera.

Editing

The image was edited in my phone for black and white using Snapseed.

In my camera bag

I usually have a couple of cameras in my bag, a Ricoh GRll for street work. Which is small, quiet and unobtrusive. I also carry an Olympus Pen-F with a Leica Vario-Elamr 100-300 or the Olympus 75-300, for taking high images through the windows from where I work.

Feedback

No one camera is good for everything, so that is why I carry two, three if you include my camera phone. Just be prepared and know your surroundings. Sometimes using what you have is better than lamenting that you might not have the right camera with you and not making that image. Go for it. You might be pleasantly surprised!
