Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Wintersmith Park in Ada, Oklahoma. This particular location is where I proposed to my Wife.

Time

This photo was taken a while ago, I believe I took this right around the early evening hours on a stormy night.

Lighting

I do a lot of my lighting during my post processing. I typically try to use natural light in all of my images as this gives me the feeling of being more true with nature. The most time do to the lighting is enhancing the natural lights. The only other edit to this is the use of a vignette filter.

Equipment

I believe I actually just used my cell phone. I was on a walk and was not intending to take photos until I stumbled upon this scene and I just could not pass it up.

Inspiration

The inspiration comes from the love I have of a mesh of darkness and light. I never like anything too dark, but too much light overwhelms me, so I tend to shoot at or just after sunset. I wasn't specifically shooting for this shot, however, I was inspired by what it meant to me about darkness and light.

Editing

Yes, I just added a vignette. Everything else you see in the photo is completely natural lighting. The only editing is adding the vignette.

In my camera bag

I usually like to carry my camera and my tripod with me. Because I shoot at darker hours of the day, I may need my tripod to get a good shot. I also carry my remote shutter with me and that allows me to increase my exposure time.

Feedback

If you want to naturally capture this blue gray, you need to be starting your shots just as sunset is finishing, however, to help add the gray, you also need a cloudy sky. You should also understand that post processing is not the most important aspect of this type of shot but it is very helpful.
