I took this photo in my home made studio in Nairobi, Kenya. Being a self taught photographer i had a lot try on in terms of light set up and directing the model on what to do. Actually the model Mike did well since it was his first time in front of a camera.Time
So i get a call from a friend of mine Agoro that she has found a model who i would be interested to shoot. We plan for the shoot the following day. Agoro and the model Mike show up at my house. Turns out Mike is shy due to his skin color (a person with albinism). We take like an hour to convince him too shoot, he gives in finally. An idea pops up and i rush to my bedroom, grab a white bed sheet from my bed. We rap him up and we start shooting . Funny thing is we were coming up with the concepts while shooting. The picture was taken on May 06, 2017 at 3:26 PMLighting
i wanted a simple crisp image with a white background. The set up consists of two studio lights both with a softbox. One light was positioned in front of him and the other one at the back acting like the background.Equipment
This was shot on Canon 6D, with an EF24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens and two Visico v200 studio lights.Inspiration
Actually the Model, Mike did inspire me. Being my first time to interact with a person with albinism, i wanted to do something simple but unique. Something he can use to kick start his modelling journey in the near future. And above all i wanted an image showing all human beings are the same, we have same blood color, no one is less than the other.Editing
Being a conceptual photographer i do post- edit my work a lot. It helps me bring out my imagination of the final product with easy. i used Camera raw to turn the image to Black and White, added some contrast and sharpening to it. Opened the image on Adobe Photoshop, added the leaves and the blood you see coming out of the nostril. And also the colorful strips at the background were done in Photoshop. In my camera bag
My favorite lens Canon 50mm 1.2 prime always in my bag. Canon 6D with the kit lens EF24-105mm f/3.5-5.6. That is all i can afford at the moment . LOL!!Feedback
You don't need to have the perfect mood board, ideas or awesome concepts to shoot. Just show up and shoot, Ideas will come. Trust me.
