Behind The Lens

Location

This is a well known location to many landscape photographers. The church is located in St Magdalena within the dolomite mountains in South Tyrol, Italy.

Time

This was a flying visit on my way to another location. Taken around 1pm.

Lighting

There was nothing particularly special about the lighting that day, it was blue sky with scattered clouds across the peaks.

Equipment

I used my Fuji X-T2 the 55-200mm XF Fuji Lens and a 3 legged thing travel tripod.

Inspiration

I'd seen similar images from this location in youtube videos and on instagram so i wanted to get my own take on the location.

Editing

This is a single exposure but i have used a lot of luminosity masking within photoshop to bring out the details. I like to add an orton effect to my images to give them a more painterly look.

In my camera bag

My primary camera is a Fuji XT-2 I carry a 10-24mm and 55-200mm zooms, as well as 35mm 1.2 and a 12mm f2 lens that i use only for astrophotography.

Feedback

My advice is probably not to go during golden hour, you'll be surrounded by about 15 other photographers in the tiny fenced off viewing area and you'll all get the same image. My advice is always just to take your time. This location also looks stunning in the autumn with all the orange trees.
