This photo was taken in the backyard here at my home. We like to grow fruit and vegetable, so we plant flowers as well to bring the bees for pollination.Time
I think it was an early afternoon out playing with the kids. They love flowers and are always asking me to take photos of the flowers we grow.Lighting
Not really. The sun was high in the sky and the biggest challenge was trying to get the right angle of the sun without getting the shadow of myself getting in the way.Equipment
We have several cameras in our arsenal, this particular shot was taken on the Canon 50D and handheld.Inspiration
The kids love and nagging for lots of photos of their favourite flowers in our garden. The angle and settings were all designed to bring out the colours and highlight the new petals that even though they were opening almost looked like they were withering.Editing
I tend to like to keep post-processing to a minimum. However saying that, I do have a favouring towards bringing a little extra colour out, and I really like to play with the lights and shadows within a picture. In my camera bag
The real question is what don't we have in our kit. As we are a family of creatives we have a lot of gear depending on what we are shooting. But the standard backpack for all of us includes. Canon 40D, 450D, 50D, 2 x Lumix toughs (for the kids), and a GoPro hero 5. The Lenses that almost live on our cameras are the Tamron 10-22mm and 17-40mm. We always take the nifty 50 although it really does not get much use. and a couple of 70 - 300mm. Ideally we would love to replace nearly all our lenses with 2 x Tamron 18-400mm, but that might end up waiting until we upgrade our bodies first.Feedback
Experiment. Shoot in Full Manual mode and change every setting multiple times. Change your angle by 20degrees and experiment with the settings again. Go for a walk and take a photo of every different type of flower you come across. the changes in the angles of the sun and shadows can make for some amazing effects.
