Behind The Lens

Location

This is photograph was taken in the town where I live. I have to compete with many painters here to try to be exhibited in the summer show of artistic creation in Sainte Adele. Because of this, I try to create photographs that painters will never be able to imagine.

Time

This photograph was taken just before sunset because the light at that time of day reveals the textures in the snow. This time of day also lights the snow in a way that makes it multi hued and not just flat in color.

Lighting

The golden hour is always an exciting time to photograph because it reveals textures and everything becomes more dramatic.

Equipment

I used a Fujifilm XT20 with a zoom lens.

Inspiration

I have always been looking for the 4th dimension since I was about three years old in Madison, Maine. I am always intrigued by finding a hidden dimensionality to certain images I make.

Editing

This is a hand-manipulated image. The guy in the center is from another photograph I took earlier to this one. I am always looking to cross combine things to help with making an image look surreal. In this case adding the guy was preplanned to break up having an image that comes from the same image flipped over on itself three extra times.

In my camera bag

Just my camera with the zoom lens for this work. I don't want anything that can slow me down like a camera bag on my shoulder as I race to get into a position to capture what I want.

Feedback

Know your territory helps in some cases. Being there and ready at a decisive moment depending on what you are looking for.. Listen to your inner child. Travel to places you have not been to so you see things absolutely freshly. Try to capture the immediate thing that inspires you then keep photographing to see if you can go beyond that idea and make a photograph that is truly special.
