Behind The Lens
Location
I took this picture at Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, in the UAE. That was in the year 2015, during one of the Jumping contests.Time
The contest started in the afternoon till sunset. I was lucky to take this shoot while the sun was at the middle of the sky. Otherwise, the stadium lights were not so good.Lighting
Action photography requires high shutter speed, faster than 1/1000s, to freeze the moment. Which in turn requires high natural light to get the right exposure with low ISO. The afternoon light with clear sky will did the job. Considering the direction of the sun light was also important to avoid harsh shadows on the subject.Equipment
The Canon 1000D is my favorite camera for shooting events and street life. EF 75-300mm Canon lens is more convenient to shoot from the audience stage. Lense hood and polarized filter helped to eliminate highlights and sun rays. Natural lite was the only source of light.Inspiration
Horse shooting is awesome. The thing which amaze me most is the high concentration and rhythm between the horse and the cavalier. Especially, at the moment when they are passing over the hurdle.Editing
I did little fundamental editing to the picture. I raised the exposure spittle, increased the clarity and little of the contrast. In my camera bag
When I go shooting events I take the Canon 1000d, EF 55mm, EF 75-300mm, lens hood, polarized filter, extra SD cards, note book, tripod (always in my car) and cleaning kit.Feedback
It is very important to study the subject before shooting. Observe the subject how it moves and reacts. Learn about the event stages, and the name of each stage of the event, this would give you an idea what to shoot and when. Doing all that, then you can predict and anticipate when the moment you want will come.
