Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in the early evening at the top of my street. I was changing angles and literally just pressed the shutter at the right time. As traffic was a little slow this evening I didn't get a great deal of choice but I was so glad I caught this. Its one of my favourite images.

Time

As I said previously this is possibly one of my favourite images, I headed out in the early evening just after sunset.

Lighting

It was just after sunset and steadily going darker, this was toward the end of my shoot as traffic was slowing down so this was one my last attempts at this angle. I took a 20 second exposure at iso 100.

Equipment

I used Canon 4000d with my trusty tripod and I was more than likely testing out my new 50mm lens.

Inspiration

I just love long exposure photography and light trails in particular and if I'm stuck for ideas or can't get out I will stick local and walk around the block as I have a few good angles close by.

Editing

I edited it in photoshop express on my ipad. As the lights around me are yellow and rather uninspiring so I altered the tone and enhanced the colours of the light trails.

In my camera bag

Standard kit lens 18-55mm and I have some nd filters which I'm still learning to use and some clothes to wipe the lens if needs be.

Feedback

Basically just give it a go, it's a really rewarding type of photography. Just pick a location, set your tripod up and set your exposure to more than 10 seconds and just keep going for 10 mins or more until you get a good stream of traffic. Bridges are particularly rewarding but extra caution is needed. Don't go alone, take a friend and enjoy it together.
