Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while I was exploring Prayagraj (earlier called Allahabad) and met this boatman who offered me to go on a ride on his boat in Yamuna river. No customers were there at that time and business was low for him that day it seemed. So I offered him to book the entire boat for myself and went on a ride. He was so happy that he put his heart to take me on a long ride and since he got to know I am a Photographer he gave me a change to click many shots during the ride of other boats, bridge and the migratory birds which were there in that season.

Time

It was afternoon around 1-2 PM

Lighting

The lighting was a bit harsh at it was a sunny afternoon. Most of the shots were exposed a lot and hence I planned to shoot black and white and it gave me an advantage to utilise that lighting condition and choose my subjects to shoot accordingly.

Equipment

Nikon D750, Nikkor 24-120mm F4 lens. Nothing else

Inspiration

The boatman itself and the conversation about his life and the day made me realise about the life of him and his efforts made me feel a strong connection and I personally wanted to give him and his passion a tribute from capturing him in my shot from this journey

Editing

Yes a little bit of post processing of converting in black and white and choosing the correct exposure & contrast to highlight the exact emotion and composition I want to present

In my camera bag

Nikon D750, 24-120mm F4, 50mm 1.8G, Godox V1 flash, Godox Xpro trigger, Godox AK-R1 kit, A couple of UV filters, extra batteries.

Feedback

Choose the right lighting conditions, avoid lot of people in shot, try to be minimalistic and compose the correct frame while wait for the right emotion to click the shot
