Behind The Lens

Location

I was on a guided tour of the Grand Canyon with my mom and dad.

Time

We were on the south rim of the canyon about an hour and a half before sunset. The air was so clear and the sun hit the plateaus at just the right angle.

Lighting

I couldn't have asked for better sunlight.

Equipment

Handheld Nikon D5300 with 300mm lens

Inspiration

I loved the way the plateaus looked like steps. The size of the Grand Canyon is humbling and it was awesome to see the scale in this photo.

Editing

I'm not a fan of extensive post processing. The only edits I made were enhancing the colors in the canyon and deepening the shadows. I wanted the reds in the rocks to stand out against the whites and the blue sky.

In my camera bag

I have my standard 50mm lens, extra memory cards, extra batteries, and water!

Feedback

Practice practice practice. There is always a little bit of luck involved also. You can never take too many!!!
