Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while en route to Machu Picchu. Humantay lake was the first stop of a 5-day trek along the Salkantay trail. It had been raining all day and only when we had arrived did the sun break out.

Time

We got to the campsite around lunchtime and as soon as we put our stuff down I immediately left for Humantay lake. I had seen pictures of it before and was excited to see it for myself.

Lighting

As I didn't bring much equipment with me I was at the mercy of nature. Having not spent so much time in the southern hemisphere I didn't know what to expect.

Equipment

This was shot on my iphone 5s.

Inspiration

This trip was filled with great photo opportunities and I was sad I didn't have any of my equipment with me at the time. I would happily go back and do it all again. One of the best treks I've ever been on but I think it might be better to do it out of the rainy season. Every day it rained and if you didn't come prepared it might no have been such a pleasant experience.

Editing

Yes, during some downtime in Lima I started editing it with Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Good question!

Feedback

Don't make the same mistake as I did! I went travelling without my equipment as I wanted to enjoy myself as opposed to working/taking photos all the time. You need need to find a balance between appreciating what your experiencing and with capturing some of those amazing experiences.
