Thank you for asking! The photo was taken at the delta of Aksios river on the side of the sea wich always has very calm waters.Time
The river delta of Aksios (Greece) wich is actually sea mixed with the river was always a beautifull place with an abundance of subjects for long exposure photography. I had visit the place many times in the past but always morning. That day i decided to go there from the noon and stay until the sunset. This photo was taken in the middle at 5:30.Lighting
That day was perfect for long exposure photography. It was foggy and heavy cloudy. The light had a very nice natural difusion and there was no wind at all. The waters was almost still and the boats had almost zero movement.Equipment
My camera is a Sony ILCE 7RII with the Sony FE 24-240 3.5-6.3 OSS. I used Haida Nanopro ND1000 for long exposure shot. My tripod is a Rollei Traveler Carbon. The shot is at 240mm, f/11, ISO50, 15sec.Inspiration
It was the mirror effect of the boat on the waters and the unbelievably still waters that made everything so peacefull and quiet that day. That calmness and serenity I wanted to transfer to the viewer of this photo.Editing
Yes there is as there is in all my artworks. In most of the cases I work subtractive, I used to remove unwanted objects from my images in order to make the subject as minimal as i see fit. I only change a sky now and then, if I have no information from the original sky or its is dull. Wich I did in this case too. Since the shot was on 240mm i had almost nothing to subtract from the original but the whole scene was a grey sky and sea almost without horizon and a boat with its mirror in the middle, so i decided to add a sky wich it had to be mirrored too in order to make a point and fit naturally. And that's all.In my camera bag
My equipment is pretty simple. I use to do shoot landscapes, portraits and most of the cases long exposure. So i keep it pretty simple. I use a body of Sony ILCE 7RII. Only two lenses a sony FE 24-240 3.5-6.3 OSS and a Viltrox 85mm 1.8 Auto. A series of ND filters from Haida an ND1000, ND64 and ND8, my tripod is a Rollei carbon Traveller. The Nisi i40 external flash unit complements my portrait photography needs. As a surplus i have two adaptors one for an old MD minolta 70-210 Vivitar lens wich I never use by the way and an M42 for Nex wich I use with an old Helios 44M 58mm 2.8 Manual focus for when i need that beautiful bokeh that this lens deliversFeedback
Well, fine art photography along with long exposure needs some technical knowledge and some experience in order to choose not only the subject but also the right angle or the light. It needs a perception to see in the field the subject finished in your mind and deliver it with the tools given from harware to software. So it needs someone to master them both. Of course in photography nothing is ever learned fully, it never stops its is a constantly learning situation that has no ceiling. So my advise is to study alot, shoot alot, post process alot and try to find your own identity in photography. So if someone sees your work to know that this is definitely yours!
