Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on a recent road trip of the East coast of Tasmania. Maria Island is a sanctuary to many unique Tasmanian animals. I am an amateur nature photographer from Western Australia.

Time

It was taken in the afternoon following a long walk where I saw many echidnas and wombats. This wombat was unconcerned and allowed me to sit and watch her graze.

Lighting

The natural light on Maria Island is a photographers dream! Soft summer colours really set this picture off.

Equipment

I used my Canon 80D with an EFS 17-55mm lens

Inspiration

This photo was just a photo that I had come for. I had heard that the wombats were very photogenic and they didn’t disappoint!

Editing

I didn’t adjust this photo much apart from some minimal cropping

In my camera bag

I always have my 17-55mm Canon lens as my go to. I also have my Tamron 70–200 for those killer landscape shots or closeups of shy creatures. It gives my that creamy bokeh background. I also carry a GoPro hero 7 for some wide angle and video shots.

Feedback

Maria Island is the place for marsupial photography. Being a reserve the animals are plentiful and easy to photograph. There is strictly no touching, however!
