Dragonfly wings are fascinating biological composite structures consisting of an ultra-thin membrane reinforced with a network of hollow veins. These mostly tubular veins divide the wing into several small parts called cells. Chitin in its natural form is translucent and it's the "extreme thinness" of dragonfly wings that make them appear glassy.
