Photo taken at home in a room I use as a studio. Johannesburg. South AfricaTime
Think this photo was taken around mid day. My daughter came to visit as she was in a bad mood and just needed a bit of mommy love. I needed to test out the lighting so had her pose in different positions. By the end of the shoot we were both laughing so much that all her worries were gone.Lighting
The lighting was a mix of studio and sunlight as the room has huge windows. Trying to get the right colour balance was the biggest challenge and in post, this photo just called to be changed to black and white for more impactEquipment
Camera - Canon - always use my trusty canon. No tripod or flash. Lots of lying on the ground and standing on chairs during this shoot, which led to some really funny momentsInspiration
The photo was inspired by a bad mood, a lighting exercise and then a lot of laughter.Editing
Very little post done other than to convert to black and whiteIn my camera bag
My bag always has at least two lens. The must have for me is the 24-105mm, I then have a 200mm and lastly a prime 50mm. Tripods (I have a lightweight fold up), two cameras, in case one goes on the fritz, lens cleaners, batteries and an external flash. Although I very seldom use an external flash, you never know when it may be needed.Feedback
Play around with positions with relation to the light. Try to capture the mood of your model. Dont force smiles or no smiles. I only discourage false smiles. The first 30 photos are usually just getting everyone relaxed. Only after that do we get to the real deal. I love taking photos as people are getting into position - or about to pose. The most natural ones are always the best . This one came out of a series of around 10 in the same pose.
