This photo was take on the Big Island of HawaiiTime
As the Big Island of Hawaii keeps light pollution down so the observatory has a clear view of the night sky, clear evenings are full of stars. This photo was taken around 10:00pmLighting
I wanted to share with people the absolute beauty of the night sky against the home of my dear friends who graciously let me stay year after year. I wanted to capture the majesty that the night sky brings to be viewed night after night after night.Equipment
I am using a Nikon D850 on a tripod and cable release to control jitters. I use the Nikkor 28-300mm lens and choose to keep the ISO to 1000 to help control grain.Inspiration
I have been visiting Hawaii annually for years. Once my friends built their home and opened it up to me I spent hour just sitting outside gazing at the beauty the night sky brings. I wanted to capture that beauty and their home so they could see how their home compliments the environment.Editing
Very little post-processing was needed. Just increased the contrast to bring out more of the night sky was needed. In my camera bag
Normally I have my Nikon D850 with 3 lens; the 28-300mm zoom, Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 and Nikkor 28mm 1:1.4 prime lens. Also have flash unit along with cable release too.Feedback
If you are going to be taking night pictures in area that has no light pollution, like I did here, know that when clouds roll in, you will not see them, what you will see is the disappearance of your stars as the clouds move by. So watch for the blackness and also be aware that to not have star-trails, you must keep your shutter speed in check as it does not take that long to start showing up in the frame.
