Location
This photo was taken in Bagan (Myanmar), inside a small temple of 13th century. Bagan is an ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with remains of 3.822 temples and pagodas.Time
It must have been around midday. It was very hot outside & the sun was burning. Entering this old small temple, we found shelter but it was very dusty.Lighting
The small temples and pagodas of Myanmar are well known for the natural light. The light was entering from small windows (unglazed), very strong in some places and the rest of the chamber stayed dark. The offering candles under the big Buddha statue added some warm colours. The chamber was very dusty and in combination with the intense light beams it produced a dramatic & mysterious atmosphere.Equipment
I own a Nikon D5300. For portraits I use a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G. But here, I used the standard Nikon 18-55mm VR lens. Nothing more.Inspiration
Children have no shortage of imagination! I remember when I was playing as an child, any intervention of an adult spoiled the game. When I saw these two playing, I stood back in an corner try to stay unnoticed, without ruin the scene. Their simplicity was amazing! They didn't need fancy toys. The outcome was a product of their imagination.Editing
I shot in RAW files. I try not to make huge changes, so I play with the Basics. As the photo was too dark, I increase the Temperature, Exposure and Clarity. It's a portrait, so I don't add too much highlights, shadows and contrast. About the colours, I softly highlight them using the "Color Balance". Success is when your photos look natural. In my camera bag
I am more an adventurer shooting landscapes and some portraits too. My main portrait lens is a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G. I use the standard 18-55mm VR lens too and outdoors even a Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED. For landscapes, I love my Tele Zoom Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED, especially in the mountains. For wide-angles a Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC, and the very light standard 18-55mm VR. Mostly I don't use a tripod. I carry 3 batteries for long and remote destinations.Feedback
Try to learn from artists that you admire (photography and filmography), but try not to copy them. Learn to use your camera and use the setting in the best way. Don't imitate and try to be original. It takes time and much practise.
