The photo was taken from Santander, Spain, and portrays the small Mouro Island, which only has this lighthouse in it.Time
It was pretty early in the morning, weather forecast was anouncing an amber alert with big waves and storms, so I called a bunch of phography loving friends and we headed that way. The wind and rain were pretty heavy at times, so it wasn't a very comfortable situation to take pictures.Lighting
We had some very beautiful storm light moments that day. This one was taken early in the morning, and the dark sky really worked well with the misterious and dark mood I was looking for.Equipment
I used my Canon 7D with a cheap Tamron 70-300. Thanks the crop sensor, I could get even closer to the scene.Inspiration
The huge waves hitting the lighthouse are always an inspiring image for landscape photographers.Editing
In this picture I used some heavy creative editting, but everything was kept pretty simple, and most of the post-processing was done in Lightroom software. The light on the lighthouse was off, so I turned it on with a couple of circular filters. The top of the sky was darkened with graduated filters and I played with the balance to obtain the moody image I was looking for.In my camera bag
In this case I only brought my tele lens, since I knew I was going to be shooting long distance. I also brought my tripod just in case i needed it, and the flashlight I always carry with me.Feedback
For this kind of photo, weather is paramount. You don't get to see this kind of waves on a regular day, so you have to wait for an amber alert kind of forecast. It's very importat to bring the right clothes to protect you from the wind, the cold and the rain. Framing and composition are also essential to get a good shot.
