How lovely is she... Moved from self harm to self love with some help from myself and my business partner and I'm so happy that she's in a better place....

Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my partner's lounge. It was very difficult to get a space that would work and move enough furniture out the way, but we persevered.

Time

We were tired and she was struggling with her energy... So was I... Actually we were all exhausted but kept pushing because we kept seeing different angles.

Lighting

The lighting was very simple. Curtains closed to cut out the light. We used a rotolight converted with a fine scarf to reduce light further..

Equipment

The shot was taken either on our Sony A7iii or EosR.. Sorry not got the camera info on me right now. Used a rotolight which was covered with a thin scarf. No tripod.

Inspiration

We wanted to show her simple beauty. We wanted to show her how beautiful she truly is. This is a young woman who had left Cambridge University due to struggling with self harm and issues with self image. I knew that i could show her that she is worth love, care and attention. That she is a beautiful woman and that her body is perfect despite what she might think. She knew she was safe with me. It took me a year to get her to model for me. For her to agree that just maybe, she might look ok in a photo. She was so pleased with the photos and will model again...

Editing

Yes it was converted to black and white with a minimal amount of contrast increases and slight adjustments to exposure..

In my camera bag

My camera, 24-70 L range Canon lens, 85mm Tamron lens, Canon flash, rotolight, triggers for off camera flash, a torch, lens cleaner, extra batteries and now, reflectors

Feedback

Don't be afraid of the dark. There is so much magic in the dark. Be very clear that your model is comfortable with you and, if not, make sure she has a chaperone. Keep experimenting with light or reduced light.
