They were captivating and compelling. Superb musicianship. I should also add that this (and most of this trip) was captured by my Huawei Mate 20 Pro thanks to losing my Sony RX100VI somewhere in Belgium... My heart is still broken about that, In any event, they say that the best camera is the one with you...
that litle phone proved that axiom.

My wife and I love traveling. The most difficult component of life during the pandemic has been being denied that miraculous privilege. We had a couple of big trips in 2019, including a European sojourn that saw us in Poland for nearly 2 weeks. We are both professional musicians, and it wasn't difficult to appreciate the virtuosity of these Gdansk musicians, entertaining in an entry way to the main town square. There was actually a troupe of them taking turns.Time
Our ship docked in Gdansk around 8am, and we were on our way to town around 10:30. This performance would have been late morning. (This is late August).Lighting
It was a bright day, but the cover of the arched entranced diffused the sunlight nicely. Just good luck and timing involved in this!Equipment
With my Sony RX100 VI having been stolen earlier in the trip, my only weapon left was my Huawei Mate 20 Pro.... What a weapon it has turned out to be!Inspiration
I'm not a photog that really plans things out.... I'm just a guy that is open to life happening in the moment. I saw life and passion here, so I captured it.Editing
I do post like a jazz musician... I just open a photograph and start improvising. Honestly, I can't remember the specific tools I used, but it was probably Befunky, an online editor that happens to be one of my favourite packages. In my camera bag
I still have a few original RX100's and the Mate 20 Pro. "My bag" is my pockets. These cameras aren't perfect, but they are good enough.Feedback
My advice is thus: Learn to recognize the moment something visually compelling is happening, and then don't walk on by. Walk around the subject taking lots of frames. The compelling imagery will come across in at least one frame. One of the most important processes in post is the crop tool. Learn how to take the object of your ocular affection and place it unapologetically front and centre.
