Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my parents garden, seated in the shade. It was early in 2020 on an insanely hot day in Australia.

Time

It was early afternoon and I had been toying with taking photos of the bees that flocked to the bird bath, especially on hot days.

Lighting

It was a lucky shot lighting wise, no extra lighting was used. Just the sunlight.

Equipment

I used my mother's canon 5d mk iii and her 100-400mm lens. Nothing else, just a hand held shot.

Inspiration

I love taking nature photography, especially the beautiful birds. This was a lucky shot, the bird resting nearby on the tap before dropping down for a drink.

Editing

There's very minimal post processing done in Lightroom. A little colour and lighting correction and nothing else.

In my camera bag

I recently upgraded my own kit to a 7d mk ii. I have a Tamron 18-400mm lens, an 18-22mm wide angle lens and my nifty 50. I have a remote and shutter release and of course a tripod. Nothing flash.

Feedback

Patience and luck come into play a lot with nature photos. Animals aren't always out or quiet enough for photos. Just keep practicing.
