Location
I took this photo at the legendary Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge at sunset.Time
This was taken at sunset. I had spent a long day taking photographs around Delaware, going to multiple wildlife refuges including Blackwater NWR. My last stop was Bombay Hook, and I arrived a bit late, but it was the golden hour.Lighting
There was a backlight right behind one of the pools and the bird is silhouetted. Nature's lighting is uncontrollable, and this is one of the good moments.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D3500, which was my first camera. I have upgraded to a D500 now. It was shot with the kit lens 70-300mm AF-P. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I simply looked at the landscape and the bird and snapped the photo.Editing
I only cropped the photo. I don't believe in post-processing too much because I believe wildlife photography is a type of documentary photography. In my camera bag
Currently, I have just one thing in my bag: my Nikon D500 attached to a Tamron 150mm-600mm lens. This lens is great for wildlife photography. I don't like there to be lots of stuff in the bag because I need to travel often.Feedback
Sunset behind water is always nice - but it's important to have something in the foreground. National wildlife refuges are great places to capture pictures of stunning wildlife.
