It was a Sunday morning and the locals were waiting for the mass to beginLighting
This elderly woman was right at the entrance to the church so she had shadow behind her and natural light on her face. We always shoot manually, never automatic, so the camera was manually set for the light measured on her face.Equipment
This shot was taken during a trip made many years ago. In those days our equipment was really minimal ... also because we traveled by motorbike. No flash, no tripod (we never use these tools anyway)Inspiration
The photos taken on this trip to Romania were our first real reportage. We wanted to photograph people's lives, their world, the moments of their everyday life. The face of this elderly woman was particularly expressive. It told a lifetime and her eyes were truly moving.Editing
This photo was a color slide. It was converted to digital, then we worked in postproduction to transform it into black and white, erase the scratches and imperfections caused by time and finally enhance the contrasts a little and increase the sharpness. In my camera bag
Nikon D800 - D100 - D700 cameras Nikkor lenses 14-24 f2.8 / 24-70 f2.8 / 70-200 f2.8 / - 24-120 f4 All multiplied by two car because each of us two has his own backpack with his own equipment. The most used and favorite lens is the 14-24 wide angle lens. It brings you right into the scene and captures a great spatiality.Feedback
Always be ready in any situation to seize the moment. There are no places where it is not possible to take a good shot. Never shoot at random, you have to foresee and prefigure a photo, wait for the right moment with a lot of patience, eliminating the disturbing elements from the frame and taking great care of the composition. We don't use flashes and tripods because we don't want to lose the spontaneity and immediacy of the moment.
