Location
This photo was taken at the Ryan Center - which is the basketball arena for the University of Rhode Island. The game was URI against their arch-rival -Providence CollegeTime
Games at the Ryan Center usually start at 7 PMLighting
This is just from the arena lighting as flash is forbidden at Division 1 basketball gamesEquipment
I shoot with a Nikon D5 with a 70-200 2.8 in my hand. Sitting by my knee is a Nikon D850 mounted on a Platypod. I use Pocket Wizard remotes so that when I fire the D5 in my hand, the D850 also fires. I like the combination of telephoto for close in action and the wide angle for a more environmental look. The D850 had a Sigma 14-24 2.8 lensInspiration
I shoot all the URI home games. The school uses the photos for their website and for marketing purposesEditing
I have a Lightroom preset that I use to bring out some clarity and color. I use the Vivid profile as wellIn my camera bag
I try to switch it up every game. Most of the time I have bothe a telephoto and a wide-angle lens. Occasionally I'll shoot with a 300 2.8 for close-in shots and I'll sometimes mount a remote camera in the catwalk aiming down at the basketFeedback
Try to keep your backgrounds clean. Keep your shutter speed up to freeze action. And do your best to find a spot without a ref right in front of you
